Discount Wedding Gowns – Getting Your Measurements Right
Brides who intend to order their gown online must ensure that they accurately measure themselves before making their purchase. A dress which is too long can be altered but if you under measure then you have wasted your money.
There are four measurements required when ordering and while all online stores will have size charts it is important that you take accurate measurements. I would suggest that you get at least one other person to assist you and verify you measurements. It is very important to wear the exact undergarments, slip, and shoes as the day of the wedding as this will affect the accuracy of the measurement; especially the heel size.
Bust, Waist and Hip measurement are straight forward and easy enough to get accurate but the H – H or hollow to hem can be a little bit tricky. If you follow the instruction below you should manage it ok.
The Hollow to Hem measurement determines the length of the gown and is literally the distance from the hollow just below the neck to the hem of the gown.
- Stand up straight, face forward with your arms straight down at your sides.
- Place the tape measure ¼” (1 cm) below the hollow of your neck and measure to the waist following the shape of your body.
- Measure from the waist to where you want the finished hem to fall following the shape of the slip.
- Place the measuring tape ¼” (1 cm) below the hollow of the neck and measure to the approximate finished hem. If this measurement does not equal the total of the previous two measurements, repeat all three measurements until the measurements agree.
As we said earlier it is essential that you get these measurements right because stores are unlikely to issue a refund for wrong measurements. So long as you follow the instructions you’ll be ok.
